Welcome to
the official web site of the High Council of
Clan Donald Chiefs. The High Council comprises 5 of the extant
Chiefs of Clan Donald and provides a forum for the leadership of the
Clan worldwide.
The badge of the High Council is the seal of Angus
Mor of Islay (1249 - c.1300) son of the eponymous Donald Mac Ranald
and therefore the first Macdonald. Angus Mor was the first de
facto Lord of The Isles under Scottish rule, though the title
was not officially established in the Scottish Realm until the time
of his grandson John. Donald, Angus' father, was the 4th King of the
Isles (c.1210 - 1230) under the Norwegian Realm. The Latin text
reads: S'. (Sigillum) Angus de Yle Filii Doanaldi; in English: The
Seal of Angus of Islay son of Donald. Today, the seal signifies the
endorsement of the High Council of Clan Donald Chiefs.
