Pipe Major Roddy MacDonald Appointed as Piper to the Governor of Queensland.

On the 15th March 2006 at Government House, the Governor of Queensland appointed an exemplary musician, Pipe Major Roddy MacDonald as �The Governor�s Piper� and presented him with her personal standard, to be flown from his bagpipes during Vice-Regal occasions.  

Her Excellency, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, the Governor of Queensland and Sergeant Roddy MacDonald, Pipe Major of the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums, on the occasion of his appointment as The Governor�s Piper and the presentation of the Governor�s personal standard. The governor is wearing a suit off the Queensland Tartan.

Originally from Inverness in Scotland, Roddy comes from a famous line of pipers. His Grandfather Donald and his father William were Pipe Majors of the 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry.

Roddy started his pipe band career with the Boys Brigade then moved on to the Inverness British Legion, Invergordon Distillery and British Caledonian Airways Pipe Bands.

Roddy has had outstanding success as a composer of music with inclusions in over 50 recordings to date. In 1986 he published the Clanranald Collection of bagpipe music and in 2003 released his debut album which has received a considerable number of rave reviews in the international music press.

In February 2003 Roddy and his family moved from Osaka, Japan to take up his current appointment as Pipe Major of the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums.

He is passionate about his work within the Queensland community and is particularly proud of the contribution the Pipes and Drums makes to the lives of Senior Citizens, School Children and members of the Indigenous community throughout the state
